Lawrence and Mayo established itself in India in 1877. Later, in 1938, LAWRENCE & MAYO was registered as a private limited company under the Indian Companies Act of 1913, led by a Britisher named L H Aliston. Mr I C Mendonsa, a member of the management team, was crucial in expanding the company's operations. I C Mendonsa took over as Managing Director of LAWRENCE & MAYO in 1959, laying the groundwork for the company's future position in India. In 1967, he purchased the entire stock of Lawrence and Mayo, transforming it into a completely Indian firm, and the journey proceeded. Today, his children and grandchildren are involved in the operation, distributing responsibilities and expanding on his vision and objective.
Dr. Vivek Mendonsa is the LAWRENCE & MAYO Group's third generation.
The family business can be thought of as two opposing systems: family and business. Because each family member's connection is unique, with indeterminate boundaries and varied rules, conflicts may emerge due to overlap of roles such as siblings, spouse, parents and children, extended families, and multiple generation positions in the firm. Business and family have distinct priorities, with the business focussing on profitability and productivity and the family stressing on nurturing and acceptance.
Dr. Vivek Mendonsa was appointed Group Director of Marketing and Growth. Dr. Vivek's passion for marketing runs through his veins. During his marketing trials, he invented the term Nukkad marketing, which means "neighbourhood marketing." He also developed the phrase "sniper marketing." "Today, it's more about individual, personalised, and user experience marketing," he explains. It is time for 'Narrow-casting' rather than 'Broadcasting.'
Even as a budding entrepreneur, Dr. Vivek showed the ability to make the greatest use of the resources at his disposal. His willingness to implement new ideas and meet new people resulted in multiple successful business engagements.
Dr. Vivek follows his uncle's advice to "meet before the meeting." This denotes the tendency of being meticulously structured. Prior to every meeting, it is critical to work diligently and persistently on the details. Dr. Vivek meets with his directors on a regular basis, with well designed agendas and concepts.
As Group Marketing Director at LYNX-Lawrence & Mayo, he was responsible for ensuring the constant growth of their hundreds of stores spread across 16 states and 39 cities in India, offering 850+ brands and several private labels.
Dr. Vivek Mendonsa founded a number of subsidiaries dealing in Soil & Material Testing Equipment, Hydro-Meteorology & Weather Station, Vacuum Equipment & Systems, Analytical & Scientific Instruments, Vocational Training Equipment, Environment, Drones, Drones Training Academy, Agricultural Drones, Land Surveying Drones, Surveying Instruments, and UAVs.
Among others, Dr. Vivek Mendonsa distinguished himself as a strong leader within Lawrence & Mayo. His mentors, books, and innumerable seminars have influenced him to be a positive and possibility thinker.
